How to Set Up a WooCommerce Pop-up on Exit or Timer for Constant Contact

Constant Contact and WooCommerce are two of the largest frameworks used by eCommerce businesses today, and each on their own is incredibly effective. Together, they are even more effective, and thanks to Digioh’s Lightbox, you can easily and quickly set your site up to benefit from that synergy.

The Lightbox and the Slider

The Lightbox is a pretty useful popup box: generally speaking, it presents an offer to a visitor in exchange for their email. Many blogs and major eCommerce sites (like Shopify, BigCommerce, or Magento) made use of it.

The Lightbox is a great lead-generation tool to combine with WooCommerceDigioh’s own Lightbox is clean and simple, yet very effective at conversion.

When a Lightbox is set up on a site, visitors to it will see the Lightbox and be prompted to input their email address in exchange for something nice—a discount code, a free ebook, a free trial of a product, etc. Once they’ve provided their email address, the site owner can use that to start marketing to them, thereby increasing conversion and sales (sometimes by more than 1.5%!).

An alternative to the Lightbox is the Slider—which works under the same concept, except instead of popping up in the middle of their screen, it slides out like a sidebar.

With both the Lightbox and the Slider, you can customize them in many ways: you can have a small, unobtrusive call-to-action that follows the visitor from page to page, you can choose when the popup shows up (e.g. showing up immediately, waiting until the user clicks the small CTA, or only showing up upon exit-intent), and you can customize the look and feel of it to match your site—among many other things.

Exit-intent Offer vs. Timed Offer

Two of the most effective ways to implement the Lightbox are thus: to have it show up whenever a customer goes to leave a page; to have it pop up on its own after a certain period of time. Which one you do depends on what you feel is best for your business.

For the exit-intent option, it can be highly effective to simply repurpose an offer in the form of your Lightbox. For example, let’s say you’ve dropped the price of a product from $15 to $10. A visitor may very well find the “$15.00 only $10.00!” price tag appealing, but maybe the idea of “$5 off” isn’t appealing enough to them. When they go to exit that page, your Lightbox will pop up and will reiterate the offer, but in different terms: this time it will say “Wait! Want to save 33% off?” which, while the same offer, can be interpreted differently by the visitor. They feel they are saving a lot when they think “33% off,” and with that you’ve got them hook, line, and sinker.

Timed Lightbox Option

With the timed option, you can easily implement a coupon offer. (You can see how to set up coupons in WooCommerce here.) With this implementation, if your visitor is on a page for a given number of seconds, a Lightbox will pop up offering a coupon in exchange for their email (e.g. “Save $10 on your first order! Enter your email so we can send you the code.”).

Additional Option: The QA Widget

If you have an expensive product, customers may with to talk it over before purchasing it. In this case, a simple coupon code won’t necessarily suffice to convert them; this is where the QA Widget comes in.

Think of the QA Widget as a blend of the Lightbox, a contact form, and a non-live chat session. It is a popup that gives users the impression that though you may not be immediately reachable, you will respond to their needs and are happy to help. Many QA Widgets implement a headshot as well in order to make them feel more personal. Customers enter a little info info (like their name and email address, but you can customize it to your own needs) and a question they have, and are quickly assured that they will receive a prompt response.

As it is not the main focus of this article, we won’t go into depth on it. However, you can find out more and learn how to set one up yourself here (and if you’d rather not do it all yourself, the Digioh team is always happy to help you get this set up and personalized).

The Lightbox Setup

Now we get to the biggest part of this article: getting your Lightbox set up! What you want out of the Lightbox really depends on you, and the myriad of customization options let’s you figure that out.

1. The Preliminary Stuff

First, sign up with Digioh. You can get a free trial account so you can get a feel for all this, or you can hit us up and we’ll be happy to show you a quick, personalized demo for all of this!

(In addition to signing up for a Digioh account, don’t forget to install the Digioh WooCommerce plugin.)

2. Getting Familiar with the Lightbox Design

Second, figure out how you want your Lightbox to look. After signing in to your account, head on over to the “Lightboxes” tab (if you weren’t taken there automatically) and hit the “New Lightbox” button.

From here, you have all sorts of prebuilt themes you can build on and alter. Just browse through them till you find something you like, then select it (remember, you can always change things about it!).

Once you’ve decided on a particular theme, you are free to customize it in pretty much any way you can think of.

3. Setting Rules for Your Lightbox

After you’ve finished customizing its look and feel, t’s time to set conditions for it. Click the “Edit Conditions” button in the “Conditions” tab on the left.

Here, you’ll see an “Add Conditions” button; clicking it will give you the option to add different rules for your Lightbox. This can range from if the Lightbox pops up on its own (and how quickly) to only allowing the Lightbox to pop up for first-time visitors who are on Chrome at a desktop (as an example) to having it only appear until a certain date (which is great for advertising promotions). These are only a few examples of what it can do; a complete list would take a long time!

Once you’ve decided on rules and conditions, hit “Publish” and get ready to watch leads generate themselves.

Always Follow Up: Constant Contact

You’ll want to make sure you follow up with all the emails you collect. Using a simple email-marketing solution like Constant Contact makes this easy (and so subsequently nets you more revenue); we’ve seen the greatest success with the following email frequency: send a first email immediately (this gets the highest open rate), another email two days later, and another email seven days later. Pro-tip: make sure you include some of your hottest products and an offer (like free shipping or a coupon code).

Constant Contact provides a full write-up of instructions here and here, but we’ll give you a quick rundown here for ease.

Step 1: Setting Up the Autoresponder

This is actually pretty simple. You’ll first need to click on “Email” and then “Autoresponder.” After that, hit “Create New Series.”

Now you’ll fill in some basic info like a name for this autoresponder series and select which lists you want the autoresponder to apply to. Once you’ve got that done, click “Continue,” then “Add automated email.”

Now go ahead and hit “New” (unless you already have an email layout design, in which case you’ll click “Copy”). Create a name for the email, and then hit “Next.” Now select an email template and edit its content.

Finally, adjust the message settings as necessary, hit “Next,” and go ahead and do some final tweaks and hit “Finish.”

Step 2: Scheduling the Email

Go back to the main Autoresponder page, but this time click the “Schedule” option in your email’s row. Input the number of days you’d like the system to wait before sending the email, and then hit “Save.”

That’s it!

How to Build a Constant Contact List With Your Magento Customers

Growing your email list is a great way to encourage repeat business. Follow these instructions to grow  your Constant Contact list with Magento and Digioh.

Create Your Lightbox

Start by creating a lightbox for your store. If you want to incentivize sign ups, you may want to add a coupon code to your thank you page.

Check out the editor section of our support database for detailed info on how each part of the editor works.

1. Start by setting up the form on the lightbox. Add whatever fields you want to collect from your users. If you’re using required fields on your list, make sure the forms on the lightbox match up with the required forms within Constant Contact.

2. If you decide to add a coupon, be sure to put it on your thank you page.

3. Be sure to set up a Constant Contact integration within Digioh, and add it to your lightbox.

Create Some Autoresponders

Be sure to set up a couple of autoresponders within Constant Contact. If you aren’t familiar with how to set up an autoresponder, take a look at their tutorials.

Create an autoresponder to inform your subscribers about any and all upcoming sales or promotions.

Consider offering subscriber-only coupons to encourage your customers to join your list, and stay on it.

Remember, the best way to keep subscribers is to create emails that provide value. Value can mean a lot of different things to different people; experiment with sales, coupons, and helpful information to see what your subscribers consider to be of most value, and provide more of that type of content going forward.

 

How to Create an Exit Intent Lightbox With Constant Contact

A simple but effective way to increase your website’s conversion rate is to use an Exit Intent lightbox. This type of lightbox appears to visitors when they exit a site and can be implemented in a number of ways that engage and capture those visitors before you lose them. A typical example of an Exit Intent lightbox is an offer to download a free guide, report, white paper, or similar document. In exchange, visitors provide their name and email address to be added to an email list.

In this tutorial, we show you how to create an Exit Intent lightbox in Digioh that gives visitors the option to download a marketing guide in exchange for their name and email address. When visitors submit the form, they get a thank you page with a button to download the guide. We then show you how to integrate the lightbox with your Constant Contact account so visitors who download the guide are added to one of your email lists.

Part 1. Create an Exit Intent lightbox in Digioh

Step 1. Create a new lightbox

Log in to Digioh and click New Lightbox.

On the Name Your Lightbox screen, enter a descriptive name (e.g., Exit Intent – Download Guide) and click Save Name.

Step 2. Customize and configure your lightbox

The Layout section of the lightbox editor allows you to customize the look and feel of your lightbox including the container, text, buttons and images. For detailed help, see the Editor section of the Digioh Knowledge Base.

When you are finished customizing the layout, click the Form section below the Layout section of the editor. In the After Form Submit drop-down list, select show thank you page (for more help on this option, see How do I change what happens when my lightbox form is submitted?).

Click the Thank You Page section below the Form section and customize the look and feel of the page’s download form as needed.

Click the Buttons tab and select download file as the download button’s Click Action. Under File to Download, select or add the file to be downloaded.

To preview how your lightbox will look and work, click Save & Preview and then select Preview Exit from the drop-down menu. When your lightbox looks and works the way you want, click Save.

On the Digioh navigation bar, click Lightboxes. Your new lightbox is now listed on the Lightboxes screen. You have not yet published the lightbox so it is not live.

Step 3. Add an Exit Intent condition to your lightbox

Every Digioh lightbox has a condition that determines when it gets displayed. To  make your lightbox appear when a visitor exits your website (in other words, to make it an Exit Intent lightbox), you must add an Exit Intent rule to its condition.

To start adding the condition to your lightbox, click Add in the lightbox’s Conditions column.

In the Conditions pop up, click Add Conditions.

In the Choose a property drop-down list, select Exit Intent under the Action section.

When the Exit Intent rule appears in the pop up, select the mouse action that will make the lightbox appear (for example, Mouse exits window top or Mouse exits window left). When you’ve made your selection, click Save.

Step 5. Publish your lightbox

Once you’ve added the Exit Intent rule and saved the condition, you’re ready to publish your lightbox.

In the condition pop up, click Save & Publish and then click Close. The Lightboxes screen now shows that a condition has been added and that the lightbox is on and live.

Part 2. Integrate your lightbox with your Constant Contact account

To integrate your Exit Intent lightbox with your Constant Contact account, you must create a Constant Contact integration (if you don’t already have one) and then add the integration to the lightbox.

Step 1. Create a Constant Contact integration

Click your name on the upper right-hand corner of the screen and then click Integrations on the drop-down menu.

On the List Integrations screen, click Create a New Integration.

On the Add New Integration screen, select Constant Contact from the Integration drop-down list and then click Create Integration. If you want, you can also edit the Friendly Name.

Step 2. Connect Digioh to your Constant Contact account

When the Constant Contact login form appears, enter your Username and Password and then click Log in.

In the Allow Access? pop up, click Allow.

Step 3. Choose the Constant Contact email list

On the Choose List screen, click Select next to the Constant Contact email list you want to integrate with the lightbox.

The new Constant Contact integration appears on the List Integrations screen. Confirm that Is Valid is set to True, the Endpoint is Constant Contact, and the email list is the correct one.

Step 4. Add the Constant Contact integration to your lightbox

On the Digioh navigation bar, click Lightboxes.

On the Lightboxes screen, click Editor in your new lightbox’s Actions column. You can also click the lightbox’s name.

In the Choose Integrations drop-down list, select the Constant Contact integration you created in step 1 and click Save.

At the top of the editor screen, click Save & Publish. To return to the Lightboxes screen, click Lightboxes on the Digioh navigation bar.

The screen shows your lightbox is complete with a condition and an integration. It is on and live and ready for use.

Part 3. Integrate your lightbox with your website

The final piece in this tutorial is how to integrate your Exit Intent lightbox with your website. The Digioh lightbox app easily integrates with most content management systems and web builders available today. How to Send an Automatic Email in Constant Contact After You Get a New Lead in Wix

Constant Contact and Wix You host your website on Wix, but use Constant Contact as your email marketing solution- and now you have an easy way to bridge them to help you reach leads faster and more efficiently.  Add an Email Lead Capture Lightbox to your Wix site to gain more email subscribers for your Constant Contact list.  You can then use Constant Contact’s new Autoresponder feature to send automatic emails that say whatever you want, whenever you want.  For example, you can send an email to a new lead a few days after they sign up to check in on their experience so far or send them a special discount- it’s up to you! Here’s how to do it:

The Lightbox is a “soft” pop-up that appears on the screen after a few seconds and asks your visitors to sign up to your email list.  It’s a free app, quick to install, easy to use, and unobtrusive to your visitors.  You’ve probably seen a few yourself when browsing different websites- that’s because they’re so effective. Too add it, log in to your Wix account and go to the Wix editor.  Navigate to the App Market in the left-side menu.  Then, search for either “Constant Contact” or Lightbox.”  Next to the Constant Contact Email Capture Lightbox, click the Add to site button. Step 2: Connect Your Constant Contact Account & Customize Your Lightbox

Now, Lightbox is added to your site!  But we’re not done yet.  We need to connect your Constant Contact account to be sure that new subscribers are correctly added to your email marketing list.

After clicking on the Connect Account button you will be asked to log in to Constant Contact to authorize the connection.  Once you do this your account will be connected to your Lightbox and you can select which email list you’d like to add your new subscribers to.

That’s all it takes to connect your account!  Now, you can customize the look and feel of your Lightbox as well as your most captivating message! Here’s a breakdown of the following customizable settings:

Display Pop Up Rules – change where and when the Lightbox appears
Layout and Background – change the background color and box size
Thank You Page – customize what message subscribers see after signing up
Advanced Settings – Alter the look and text of the Lightbox; add name field Customize your Lightbox

Step 3: Create an Autoresponder Email in Constant Contact

Give your new Autoresponder a name.  Be sure to select the same email list that you choose when setting up your Lightbox. Save and then click Add automated email. Create a New Constant Contact Autoresponder Series

On the next page, choose to start from scratch or copy from an existing template.  Now you’ll be able to compose your email.  Hover over and click into the sections of your email to edit them.  Look to the menu on the left for more options, such as adding images or changing color schemes.

When you’re happy with your email, click Finish.  You’ll be returned to the Autoresponder main page and can now schedule your email. Schedule you Constant Contact Autoresponder

Now you’ve completed setting up an automatic email to leads who sign up through your Wix website!  Go on- do a little jig if you want to!!

A few extra tips…

If you want to amplify welcoming your lead and you use Wix store to sell your products, consider adding a coupon in your autoresponder.  A little incentive is all you may need to turn your lead into a first-time buyer and eventually a loyal customer! Constant Contact Coupon Example

Another way you can really help your lead feel special is to send a warm welcome letter after they sign up.  Depending on how many sign ups you receive a day, you could send each person an individual note, but if that’s impractical, you do have the option of editing Constant Contact’s built-in Welcome Email.  The Welcome Email is sent immediately after someone confirms their subscription, allowing you start building bonds right away. You can actually reach the Welcome Email editor from the Autoresponder page.

You use Wix to build a great-looking website without breaking a sweat.  You use Constant Contact to email your fans and subscribers the latest promotions, updates, and more.  And now, with Digioh’s Lightbox app, you can connect the two to convert your Wix website visitors directly into your Constant Contact subscribers- no importing/exporting required!

The Lightbox is a “soft” pop-up that appears on the screen after a few seconds and asks your visitors to sign up to your email list.  It’s quick, easy, unobtrusive, and -oh yeah- free! Here’s how to add it to your Wix website:

Too add it, log in to your Wix account and go to the Wix editor.  Navigate to the App Market in the left-side menu.  Then, search for either “Constant Contact” or Lightbox.”  Next to the Constant Contact Email Capture Lightbox, click the Add to site button.

Now, Lightbox is added to your site!  But we’re not done yet.  We need to connect your Constant Contact account to be sure that new subscribers are correctly added to your email marketing list. If you don’t have a Constant Contact account you can get one here (for 75% off).

After clicking on the Connect Account button you will be asked to log in to Constant Contact to authorize the connection.  Once you do this your account will be connected to your Lightbox and you can select which list you’d like to add your new subscribers to.

Now, although you’re officially finished setting up your own Lightbox, you should put some icing on that cake!  You have a great amount of customization available to you.  Here’s a breakdown of the following customizable settings:

How to Attach a File to a Constant Contact Newsletter

With Digioh and Constant Contact, you can make your email newsletters more dynamic and increase open-rates by featuring great downloadable content.  It’s simple to do- just follow these steps.

Step 1: Create a Digioh account and connect it to Constant Contact

Step 2: Upload your file and set the security level

Use the red Select a File button to choose the file (up to 2 GB) you want to upload. Under Security Options you’ll be able to set the security level for the file.  The security level tells Digioh what to do when someone who is not on your list tries to access your file.

With List Grower Security, if a person is not on your list, it will ask them to sign up in order to download the file.
With Membership Security, only those already subscribed to your list are allowed access.

Step 3: Customize your download page

Save your changes and move to the next page.  Here you’ll be given the download link to copy and paste into your Constant Contact newsletter. Notice the email merge field is included at the end of the link.  This allows Digioh to track which subscribers are most engaged and are downloading your files.

Step 4: Paste your Digioh download link in your Constant Contact newsletter

In Constant Contact, create an email for your newsletter.  Go to Email then Create.

Choose a template or start from scratch.  In the editor, compose your newsletter and insert your Digioh download link.  To create a hyperlink, just highlight the words you want to be linked, then click on the link icon.

When you are finished composing your newsletter, save it and follow the steps to send it out to your subscribers.  Remember to preview, test, and save often!

How To Send a Secure File after Someone Signs Up on your Constant Contact Form

If you run a website and do much of your marketing through email, a popular way to gain more subscribers to your mailing list is to offer a special incentive for signing up, such as access to a free ebook or magazine. You can now easily send your subscribers a download link to your document immediately after they sign up with your Constant Contact form. Follow the steps below to learn how.

Step 1: Create an email list and sign-up form in Constant Contact

The first thing you’ll need to do before creating your sign-up form is to have an email list that the form will feed into. If you don’t already have an email list set up, you can easily create a new one.  Just login to Constant Contact, navigate to Contacts in the menu bar, then, on the left side of the page, clicking the + sign next to Email Lists.Create New Email List in ConstantContact After naming your new list, return to the Home page, then click on Sign-Up Tools on the right side of the screen.  Now, you can either click on the existing Sign-Up Form to edit it, or you can Create a Sign-Up Form. Enter your form’s title and description, then select the list you want people to sign up for. Follow the remaining steps and save your form.  You’ll be returned to the Sign-Up Tools page. On the right side of the page there are two important icons: the magnifying glass allows you to Preview your form and the link icon will let you either copy the URL for your form page or create a sign-up button to embed on your website. Step 2: Create a download link to your file with Digioh

Now that you’ve set up your form, you’ll need to set up your document.  First, sign up for Digioh, a service that allows you to send, track, and protect files for your Constant Contact subscribers. Once you have a Digioh account, connect it to your Constant Contact account and Add a File.

Link Digioh to Constant Contact Under Security Options, you’ll see a few choices: List Grower Security (a person can sign up to view the document), Membership Security (the person must already be on your list to view it), or No Security.  Since we want sign ups in this case, choose your list from List Grower Security.  This way, if anyone forwards the link to your document, they’ll be prompted to join your list. With your download link in hand, go to Emails, then Autoresponders.  Before we move further, there are a few important things to know about the difference between the welcome email and autoresponders.

The welcome email is sent immediately after someone signs up, but it is not list-specific.  This isn’t an issue if you have only one list or can craft a welcome message that could apply to all of your lists, but if that’s not an option, you may consider using an autoresponder instead. The autoresponder is list-specific and much easier to compose (WYSIWYG editor) than the welcome email, but the downside is that the earliest it can be sent is one day after your subscriber signs up.

Since we want to send the download link to subscribers right away, go ahead and click on Welcome Email.

Use the links on the left to edit the various sections of your welcome email.  In one of the paragraphs you’ll want to insert your Digioh download link.

Constant Contact Welcome Email editing screenNormally you can insert or hyperlink to your download using a WYSIWYG editor when composing emails within the site, but the welcome email editor operates a bit differently, so we’ll have to make one small adjustment to your link.  When you paste your download link, replace $SUBSCRIBER.EMAIL$ with <Property name=”SUBSCRIBER.EMAIL”/>.

Adjust the linkNow save the email and be sure to activate the changes.  You can get to the activation by going through each step (recommended) or by clicking on Exit, then Finish.

Now that you have your email completed, the last thing to do is to test everything by signing yourself up through your sign-up form.
